Project: Construction of three Ø 1800 mm x 3800 mm Dual Laminate mixing tanks
Year: 2019
Product: 2.3 mm ECTFE GGS sheets (glass fabric backed)
medium: A broad spectrum of different acidic and alkaline solutions like: NaOH, H3PO4, HCl, C2H4O2
Temperature: up to 50°C
Fabricator: Heson Metall- und Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Austria
In the 1.8 m wide and 3.8 m tall tanks a broad spectrum of different acidic and alkaline solutions like NaOH (sodium hydroxide), H3PO4 (phosphoric acid), HCl (hydrochloric acid) and C2H4O2 (acetic acid) are processed. Therefore the end-customer requires a liner material, which is chemical resistant to both acidic and alkaline solution and can withstand an application temperature of up to 50 °C.
ECTFE dual laminate tanks have been selected as the optimal solution utilizing the benefits of the thermoplastic ECTFE for chemical media contact and FRP for the structural integrity. Due to its good chemical resistance and thermal properties ECTFE was chosen as the liner material. In the past the tanks had been manufactured from PVC and had to be maintained repeatedly. With a lining of ECTFE sheets from AGRU the expected lifetime can be increased significantly.
Furthermore, due to the self-cleaning properties of ECTFE, the mixing tanks are very easy to operate and clean. This helps to avoid cross-contamination of different media.
In May 2019 the glass fabric backed ECTFE sheets were delivered to the fabricator HESON Metall- und Kunststofftechnik by AGRU. In the following 2 months the welding and FRP lamination had been done. By the end of July the tanks were finished and shipped to the end-customer. Due to the good service and performance further tanks have already been requested.
