About the project

In April 2017 Polytechnika LLC manufactured three PP-H (Polypropylene Homopolymer) tanks, each with a volume of 20 m³, for the storage of 10 % to 40 % sulphuric acid. The tanks were delivered and installed in a sulphuric acid production plant south of Moscow.
The storage units were constructed using PP-H semi-finished products produced by AGRU. Sheets, pipes, fittings and welding rod had been processed according to the customer’s needs.

Technical specifications

The tanks are designed to store a solution of sulphuric acid with a mass concentration of 10 % to 40 % with a working temperature of 5 to 70 ° C. The working pressure is ambient. The tanks have been designed for a service life of 20 years.

The inner diameter of the cylinder is 2200 mm, the height of the tank is 5220 mm. The wall-thickness varies from 15 to 45 mm. The geometric volume of the tank is 20 m³, the working volume is 18 m³. The tank has a flat bottom, a conical roof, two manholes (DN 500 and DN 600), nozzles with union flanges, eyelets for slinging, seals, fasteners and clamps to attach it to the foundation.

Production and welding

The production of the storage units was carried out in accordance to DVS 2205. The welding of PP semi-finished products in accordance with DVS 2207. The welding was done by welders, who are certified by the national welding control agency (NAKS). They used hot gas welding, extrusion and butt welding.

The set of technical documentation includes a passport, an assembly drawing, an operation manual, a strength analysis, a safety justification, acceptance test certificates, declaration of conformity according to TR TS 010-2011 on the safety of machinery and equipment, as well as certificates of conformity on materials and components.

Advantages of semi-finished products out of PP from AGRU

  • Polypropylene has a low density of 0.91 g/cm³ and is therefore suitable for lightweight constructions
  • Polypropylene is characterized by its good chemical resistance
  • Due to its high stiffness but good thermoformability and optimal welding properties PP products can be manufactured reliably and fulfil strength requirements
  • One stop shopping: Comprehensive semi-finished product portfolio and extensive stock-keeping ensures a broad spectrum of design possibilities and short lead-times
