Delivering Reliability and Performance for New Water & Sewer Network in Peru

A major water and sanitation initiative in southern Peru introduced complete potable water and sewage systems to 21 settlements in the region's upper zones. The project required over 150 km of HDPE pipelines ranging from OD 90 to OD 355 mm.
This demanded a fitting supplier who could provide technical support and high-quality solutions to ensure safe installation and long-term durability. AGRU was selected to support this objective thanks to its extensive range (one-stop shopping) of stress-crack resistant PE 100-RC fittings.

As the fittings supplier, AGRU provided a comprehensive solution, covering everything from the filtration intake and high-volume pressure piping system to the gravity sewers and household connections. We contributed certified products, engineering support and on-site assistance to ensure full compatibility and reliable performance.

Special attention was given to the new AGRU Flex Restraint. This PE 100-RC electrofusion saddle creates reliable fixed points, crucial for the many manhole entries along the route. Depending on the section, several units were installed around the pipe circumference, each capable of handling up to 40 kN (4 tons) of axial force. The system proved to be an ideal and highly adaptable solution.

A spectrum of technical challenges

The system included pressure pipelines, gravity sewers, urban distribution networks, and nearly 3,000 household connections. Each application required tailored fittings with fusion methods selected according to the available space on site and in the trench, along with specific dimensions, SDR classes, and mechanical performance requirements.

Demanding environmental conditions

The project spanned everything from a sediment-prone riverbed filtration gallery to long-distance conduction lines subject to thermal expansion, all the way to a new pumping station. Every section demanded fittings engineered for strength and long-term durability.

An aggressive construction timeline

The contractor needed a supply partner capable of delivering consistently, supporting the welding teams, and reducing installation delays to stay within the 420-day installation schedule.

Complete fitting package for all HDPE applications

AGRU supplied a full suite of components designed to match and even exceed the project’s technical specifications:

  • Electrofusion and spigot fittings up to OD 315 mm for potable water pressure lines.
  • SDR 26 fittings in OD 200 – 355 for gravity sewage lines
  • Transition flange connections for the pumping stations.
  • Flex restraints to create fix points and wall transitions / anchors
  • Compact electrofusion saddles and service kits for 2,899 household connections.

Technical support that ensured installation quality

AGRU South America delivered on-site training in electrofusion and butt-fusion welding, joint-quality verification, and supervised critical installation phases. Our logistics team ensured timely deliveries in line with the construction schedule, allowing the contractor to maintain steady progress.

Results and Impact For the project

Our high-quality, stress-crack-resistant PE 100-RC fittings ensured seamless integration across all pipe segments, efficient installation, and high-integrity joints. While the project’s design horizon is 20 years, the fittings are engineered for a significantly longer service life, providing durability well beyond this timeframe.

The system supplies drinking water and sanitation to over 11,000 residents, with capacity for more than 16,700 by 2044. The client received engineering validation, installation support, and a fittings package tailored to the project’s hydraulic and environmental requirements. The project illustrates the role of reliable HDPE fittings and professional support in delivering durable, long-lasting water and sanitation infrastructure.
