Rainwater for Mature Harvests

At Frutura, water is part of a well-designed cycle. At its Austrian production sites in Bad Blumau and St. Ruprecht an der Raab, the company grows fresh vegetables all year round thanks to thermal water heat. Most of the water used for irrigation is collected from the large greenhouse roofs and stored in irrigation ponds.

Rainwater Collection from Greenhouse Roofs

Around 26 hectares are cultivated under glass. The large greenhouse roofs serve as an important source for water collection. Rainwater is captured and specifically reused for irrigation purposes.

Sealing with HDPE Geomembranes

For the irrigation ponds, Frutura relies for years on HDPE geomembranes from AGRU. Installation and welding are carried out by Fuchs Kunststofftechnik GmbH, a long-standing regional partner.

To date, more than 40,000 m² of AGRU HDPE geomembranes have been installed in thicknesses of 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm.

Optimized Integration into the Landscape

Black HDPE geomembranes have been used in the past, now olive-green liners are used, which integrate better into the landscape and reduce the heating of the stored water. This adjustment addresses both functional and visual requirements.

Proven Solution in Practice

The project demonstrates how the full AGRU product range, such as pipes, sheets and geomembranes can be smoothly integrated into modern agricultural production systems to raise efficiency. The geomembranes enable reliable rainwater storage, are durable, and can be adjusted to different forms and designs to match local requirements.

Frutura’s repeated use of this solution highlights its confidence in the quality of AGRU products and in the professional execution by Fuchs Kunststofftechnik GmbH.
