New Insights Bring New Challenges – An Innovative Project in Sweden

The Salarium project by the Ragn Sells Group in Sweden is an example of industrial innovation. The plant, developed by Swiss AIK Technik AG in collaboration with Kanadevia Inova, processes fly ash from waste incineration and enables the recovery of valuable raw materials thanks to an advanced brine treatment system.

New Challenges Due to Varying Fly Ash Composition

Regular testing of the fly ash is essential due to varying compositions. It was found that not only the fly ash itself can be potentially flammable, but hydrogen is also formed in the gas phase of the plant – a substance with a high risk of explosion and fire.

Collaboration for a Safe Solution

To ensure the safety of the entire plant, Ragn Sells and AIK turned to their partner KOLB HSW to jointly develop a reliable technical solution.

The AGRU Solution

To prevent spark formation caused by electrostatic charging and to protect plant equipment from fire hazards, the following measures were implemented:

  • Four extraction vessels were equiped with new lids, made of AGRU PPs el
  • Two vessels were additionally fitted with new scrubbers made of AGRU PPs el
  • The entire exhaust air piping system was enlarged and fully executed in AGRU PPs el

The Result

By using AGRU PPs el, the risk of electrostatic spark formation was reduced. At the same time, the entire exhaust system was equipped with a flame-retardant material, making an important contribution to safe and reliable plant operation.
